Simulation Theory

In scientific terms, a simulation is a recreation of a real-world process or event. This means that in order to conduct a simulation, one must do the following: determine which process or event you wish to recreate, create a model for this event, and allow the simulation to run according to the model that was created.

Since simulations allow creators to see how a device will function in real life before testing it in a real event, it allows the creators to solve any potential problems. For example, car crash simulations allow car dealerships to determine exactly where each vehicle has the greatest weaknesses, and as such, where they should reinforce the vehicle for maximum safety to the driver and passengers. Furthermore, computer simulations allow many to view potential possibilities of a variety of events, such as volcano eruptions, new technology devices, and even the weather.

The Popularity of The Sims

Think of the game The Sims and consider the possibility that we are all just pawns in someone’s game. The temptation of power to control an entire civilization is obviously too much for some to ignore; perhaps, this is why this game is so popular with people. The Sims, being short for simulation, makes it quite possible that someone we have never seen is telling us what to do and when to do it - we just happen to view it as the reality we live in.

Visual Flaws Explained in The Matrix

If we are truly in a simulation, how would we not know? The answer many claim is that there are visible flaws in the world we live in. The hit trilogy The Matrix explained visual flaws as deja vu, but others consider visible flaws to be the sudden presence of ghosts, or the unexplained phenomena which occur on occasion. Rather than being the work of a supreme being, this may be the work of a simulator.

The Anthropic Principle

Asking the big question as to why our Earth is able to support human life, the Anthropic Principle answers that it is simply because all of the right data was plugged in to a simulator. It’s possible the simulation warranted the possibility of life on other planets, which led to the simulation having humans travel to space, but has not yet created the parameters for life on other planets in our solar system.

Fermi’s Paradox

In addition to the Anthropic Principle, Fermi’s Paradox hopes to answer the question of where everybody is located. Assuming that each solar system was modeled in order to support life, why have we not yet found other humans? It’s possible our simulation is just the one which required humans to believe they are alone in the universe, or it is the one currently capable of supporting life and the others eventually failed for some reason unknown to us.

God May Be a Programmer?

Most have heard the theory of creationism, but simulation theory hypothesizes that God may be a programmer. In this theory, God created the world and all living beings in six days as the Bible describes, but through the use of a computer, not his supernatural powers. Whether intentional or unintentional, God as a programmer leads humans to want to worship this greater power that created them, giving him (or possibly her...or it) the honor it deserves for its great work in simulating the entire heavens and Earth.

Multiple Simulations Assumption

We may never know what lies outside our own universe, but simulation theory hypothesizes that there could be multiple simulations each building on top of the other. Let’s say the first simulation creators wanted to see how another simulation would run, so they create a new simulation within their own simulation. This could go on for multiple simulations, making it hard to know which universe is truly the one that actually exists.

The Theory of Parallel Universes

Most humans believe in the idea of free will, which has led those searching for various simulation possibilities to consider parallel universes. Each universe could be its own simulation, in which each person makes slightly or vastly different choices. Someone, who looks just like you and thinks almost like you, could be roaming around in a parallel universe, otherwise known as another simulation.

Thanks to Modern Technology

As technology continues to advance, we are able to create our own simulations. Many scientists believe that this is because our own simulation has now reached the point at which technology is able to simulate the future, and that our own destiny is actually controlled by a simulation itself. If we look solely at the statistics of life and the universe around us, it is more likely we live in a simulation.

The Birthing Universe Theory

Some simulation theorists think our universe may actually be one of many birthing universes whose sole purpose is to create intelligent lifeforms. The birthing universe theory also claims that we are currently being judged for our actions to determine if we are indeed the type of intelligent forms that should be moved to a new simulation, or to the real world where only good moral people exist. That means within the birthing universe simulation that when a person dies, they either no longer exist, or become a part of the civilization running our simulation.

The World Is Made Up of Binary Codes?

Just as we say in The Matrix, many simulation theorists believe that our world is made up of series of numbers and binary codes since everything is quantifiable when given the right data points. As such, by examining the mathematics of our universe, we are not only able to recreate various events, but also able to easily create the billions of humans which inhabit the Earth. Out of all the theories, mathematicians and scientists believe they may actually be able to prove this is the simulation we are in.
