OK, guys. Have you kept all of your resolutions for 2014? No? Well, here's a resolution that's super simple and will reap huge dividends in your relationship with your wife if you pay attention and follow along.

The great thing about this list is that you don't have to do everything all at once. Spread these items out over the course of the year to stoke the fire in your relationship and, eventually, they'll become part of your daily routine.

Part 1

1

Kiss her often. Resolve to do this first thing in the morning and last thing at night. It will make a difference.

Do her least favorite chore. Is it cleaning the toilets? Folding the laundry? Figure out what is her biggest housework pet peeve and tackle it yourself.

Frequent date nights. This can get costly but be creative. Pay for a family member to take your kids to a matinee movie so you and the wife can have two hours alone. It'll be well worth it.

Send sweet text messages. The only skill this takes is remembering to do it.

Wine. She loves wine. Discover her favorite kind and treat her often.

Do yoga with her. OK, you might look like a fool doing downward dog (and you'll be sore for days afterwards) but that's part of the charm.

2

Hand pick her favorite flowers. Find out her favorite flowers. Write it down. Two months later, surprise her with a handpicked bouquet.

Take the kids. Make a schedule where each week you take the kids for two hours to give her a break. She'll never stop thanking you.

Start making dinner. Plan one night each week where you choose a meal, buy the ingredients, and make dinner.

Read her favorite book. Which book does she absolutely love? Find out and commit to reading it. Even if it's chick-lit, she'll appreciate the effort and will love talking about it with you.

Surprise lunch. Try to surreptitiously figure out a good time for her and surprise her with lunch and flowers at her office.

Volunteer. Women love a man who takes charge. Sign up to a volunteer as a family with a charity you both support.

3

Cut back on fantasy football. Commit to eliminating one of your fantasy football teams this season. Sure, it won't be easy, but it will free up several hours of your time each week.

Cut back on watching football. Spending 7 hours glued to the television on Sundays during football season is unrealistic. Cut that number in half and spend the rest of the time doing family stuff.

Put down the phone. We're all addicted to our smartphones or tablets. Try putting it down for long stretches so you can focus on your wife and kids.

Ask her about her day. This might seem obvious but it slips our minds all the time.

What does she want? Women are always dropping hints about things they want. The next time she does, resolve to write it down and buy it for her. It can be something simple like a new brand of coffee or CD.

4

Give up the remote. This won't be easy but it proves how meaningful it is — commit to giving her the remote every so often to flip through channels or fast forward through the DVR. Remember, change can be good.

Just do it. If you see something that needs to be done around the house — even if it's not something you typically do — don't wait for her to ask you to do it. Just get it done.

Open her car door. We do this all the time when we're dating, right? It shouldn't stop just because you put a ring on it.

Compliment her. Remember when she showed you the new pants she bought the other day at the mall? Remember to compliment how she looks the first time she wears them.

Music. Remember mix tapes? They're so 1980s. Surprise her with a playlist and secretly load it onto her iPod or iPhone.

Remember your dating days. Dig up some old photos from your dating days and send her one each day for a week. It will stir up great old memories.
