How to Hypnotize Yourself

Get comfortable

Not only do you want to be physically comfortable, but you want your environment to be a comfortable one as well. Find a quiet place without distractions. You can either sit or lie down during the hypnosis but you do want the place you perform the hypnosis to be a quiet space. Wear the appropriate clothing that will allow you to be warm or cool enough during the process to keep you comfortable and not distracting.

Turn off electronics

You don't want to have the TV on or have your phone in your hand when you begin your hypnosis. As most electronics will only cause a distraction, you want to be sure to keep away from these items. You need to be able to focus your full attention during this process. Do, however, set an alarm to help you come out of your trance though.

Know your purpose

You want to have a clear purpose for your hypnosis before you enter into your trance. Whether it is to help break you of a bad habit, manage stress in your life or boost your confidence for an upcoming exam or presentation, you need to identify your goal. Write out your goal and think of a short affirmation you can focus on that will help you achieve this goal through the hypnosis.

When you are ready to begin your hypnosis, you want to relax by focusing on your breathing. Close your eyes and focus on breathing in through your nose and exhaling through your mouth slowly. With each breath, feel your body becoming lighter and as if it were lifting off the floor or chair like a feather. How to hypnotize yourself can only be successfully accomplished once you have become totally relaxed.

Use visualizations

Once you have reached total relaxation, you can begin to visualization your goal. Focus on how you will feel, react and what you are doing as you accomplish your goals. If you are trying to prepare yourself and obtain more confidence for an upcoming work presentation, then actually see yourself preparing for it. Go through all the steps you will take the day of the presentation from the moment you wake in the morning to the moment you arrive at work. See yourself confidently greeting the people who will be attending the presentation and then visualize yourself successfully giving the presentation. Be aware of how you will feel, the words you will speak, your body language and any other details that will help you maintain confidence through the presentation.

Savor the moment

As you visualize yourself achieving your goal, you want to take a few moments to really appreciate how you feel. How does your body feel? Savor the total relaxation you feel and remember to repeat your affirmation. Do not acknowledge any negative thoughts or feelings and instead focus on just the positive. To help with this step, imagine that you are at the top of a staircase the leads to a clear blue lagoon. As you walk down the steps, image your body relaxing more and keeping yourself in a peaceful state of mind. As you approach the lagoon, feel yourself begin to float on the water and take note of how cleansing and calming the water feels.

Exit the trance

When learning how to hypnotize yourself, you also want to know how to exit the trance. There are a number of ways you can do this. If you set an alarm before you began, then the alarm will eventually wake you from your trance. You can also count backward from ten and when you reach one, tell yourself that you will awake. Sometimes you may fall asleep during the process, but do not worry, you will natural awake when you have rested.
