Final Fantasy began with a series of video games and was very successful as such. Eventually, the owners began to branch out to television, soundtracks, books and final fantasy movies. Most of the movies listed here are photo-realistic computer animated. In fact, “Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within” was the first film ever to do so. Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals (1994)
This story takes place 200 years in the future on Planet R where Final Fantasy V—video game left off). The original heroes from FFV are past heroes, and a new threat comes to their world. Deathgyunos rises on the Black Moon. Mid, from Final Fantasy V, makes contact with Prettz and Linaly (Bartz' descendant). Along their journey, they meet Rouge, a sky pirate, and the commander of Iron Wing, Commander Valcus. The movie is in four 30-minute segments. Watch to see how Prettz and Linaly battle the evil Deathgyunos.
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
In 2065, earth is crawling with alien Phantoms who can kill humans with physical contact. Surviving humans live in "barrier cities" and struggle to free. Dr. Aki Ross becomes infected by the Phantoms and in the process discovers a possible solution. Aki and her mentor, Sid, discover how to defeat the Phantoms by combining eight spirit signatures. While searching for the sixth signature, Aki is cornered by Phantoms and then rescued by Gray Edwards and his squad. Watch to see how Aki, Sid and Gray find the remaining spirit signatures and combine them to neutralize the Phantoms.
Final Fantasy: Unlimited (2001)
Ai and Yu are 12-year-old twins, traveling into wonderland and searching for their missing parents. Along their way, they meet several characters. In the first half of the story, they use a ghost train to travel to wonderland. Once in wonderland, they travel from one new world to another and battle whatever problems are presented to them. Throughout, Earl Tyrant is trying to capture the twins and absorb them because if he does, he will rule the wonderland unchallenged. In the second half of the series, new allies are made, and more battles ensue and sacrifices are made to ensure the freedom and safety of the people.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005)
Cloud, an ex-mercenary comes out of isolation when he discovers that Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo (manifestations of Sephiroth's spirits) have kidnapped and brainwashed children in the city who have Geostigma disease by promising them a cure. These children are taken to the ruins of the mystical Forgotten City, and promises are made. Cloud tries to rescue the children but fails. With the help of old friends and comrades, Cloud finally defeats the monsters sent by Kadaj. Kadaj reveals his plot to steal the life essences of the children he has to rule the planet. How will Cloud save the day?
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete (Extended Version of Advent Children) (2005)
Though the storyline is the same, the extended version is 25 minutes longer than the original release and has about 1,000 revised scenes. It contains more violence and blood in the fight scenes. Those in charge wanted to combine links into what had happened in other media related to the story, such as the video games, to give a little grittier feeling overall.
Last Order: Final Fantasy VII (2005)
Last Order is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Its events happen five years prior to that story. Sephiroth and a small group inspect the Mako Reactor outside Nibelheim. One of the members of the group is Cloud Strife (the main character in Advent Children). Nibelheim is Cloud's childhood home, but he keeps covered because he is ashamed he has not accomplished what he has sworn to do—become a full-fledged member of Soldier. Major problems occur while at the Mako Reactor, and most of Nibelheim is annihilated. Watch and see how Cloud makes it through, even if he goes into isolation because of these events.
