A LON'S BITE FORCE IS AT LEAST SIMILAR BUT COULD BE GREATER THAN A TIGER The old lion's bite force measurement was done on a young lion and compared with a full grown tiger. Since weight is related to force bite, tests should happened between equal sizes and age cats. Was this an honest conclusion? There is the motivation factor to consider too. Because lions are social animals they grow slower and get to maturity later than tigers. The measurements was only redone a few years ago. The new measurements shows that hyenas, lions, and tigers all have about the same bite force of 1,000 psi (National Geographic 2012) In contrary to other predators, it's is very difficult to measure the mature male lion's true bite force. Science only found out lately that lion's only used the bite force needed. The lion is very energy conservation minded. He as a tendency to preserved his canines and needed a great motivation to used a greater bite force. Lions have the particularity of sparing the life of small animals, they usually don't bother hunting them unless very hungry. Knowing this, a small piece of meat his not a great motivation for a big lion even more if he is not very hungry to make an accurate bite force measurement. The more hungry the lion and the larger the piece of meat would motivate more an adult male lion than a little snack. Since the lion's canines are close to 300 psi stronger than the tiger's, it is very prudent to say that in theory a very motivate male lion bite force may well pass the 1,000 psi. THE LOGIC A lion's skull is in average larger than a tiger's, in theory there are more space for muscles. The lion vs. tiger bite force big differences had no sense, particularly with the fact that male lions are large preys specialists. Being said, in combat between two powerful big cats, the bite force and canine sizes differences is a very little to no factor at all. CANINES SIZE You will found many contradictions about the lion's and tiger's canine size. In lions and tigers, the length of the canines are individual. It is not specific to a specie. However, the base of the lion's canines are wider and proven in laboratory to be about 300spi more solid.

the black piranha has stronger bite force than great white
-
The killer whale or orca have also very POWERFUL bite force it be estimated about 5 times the great white which is 3000 psi

What a load of bullshit, rosswind idiot. Tiger hold the record of biggest bigcat canine, generally tiger and lion skull are similar in every aspect, but again, the biggest and heaviest bigcat skull ever recorded by scientist belong to tiger. Anyway, bigger skull doesn't really mean bigger bite force. What determine the bite force is the ratio of skull weight and muscle. Jaguar have smaller canine and smaller skull than both lion and tiger, but their bite force was recorded and accepted by many expertiesto be stronger than both lion and tiger. In conclusion, tiger could have stronger bite force than lion or Vic versa, it's individual cases, but tiger theoretically, is going to have a bigger bite force than lion due to the fact that they hunt more than lion = jaws muscle are more used.
